ArDrum is a listed farmhouse located on The Ulster Wayright on the border between Donegal and Fermanagh. Built before the great famine it is one of the few two story traditional vernacular dwellings still standing. Irish planning law has not been kind to the build hertiage in the region and has favoured replacement rather that restoration in the past. But things are changing for the better and there is a real push to help protect the remaining historcial buidlings.
In Feb 2008 we purchased this property and have been slowly putting together a plan for restoring.The first problem was the house had lost it's right to be lived in as it was vacant for many years and we needed to submit a full planning application to get premission to start work on it. Thanks to the local council this was a pretty much pain free process.
We also needed to ensure water could be found close by which was done by driling a 3ooft bore hole.
Most things is Ireland run a much slower pace and this project has been no exception.We are fornutate to have retained the services of the of the areas finest conservationists to manage the project.
With luck the work will begin in late summer.
